Here’s a micro green you can grow at home

Radish micro greens are one of the easiest to grow. They take between 5-10 days, depending on your growing environment and desired height. These greens are also very versatile, going great as a base for salads and atop sandwiches. They even hold up well in soups and on meats and seafood.

Radish has the ability to grow in soil as well as Biostrate pads. Every micro green we have ever grown, including radish, grows better in soil. The combination of balanced moisture, airflow, and nutrients enables plant to grow as they naturally grow, which produces a fuller, brighter, and richer product. Now that isn’t to say it can’t be done well in an artificial, high tech environment, just that the natural way ensures a more consistent product with less control and input.

Radish grows best in high to medium light, but can also do very well in low light, near a window or lamp. They enjoy light for up to 18 hours a day, but can thrive on natural daylight hours or survive on even less.

Radish micro greens LOVE water. A general rule of thumb (which doesn’t always hold true for all greens) is the larger the green, the more water it drinks. This is true for most hardy varieties such as sunflower and peas as well. Radish micro greens like up to 2 cups a day for a full sized 10″ x 20″ tray. The MOST IMPORTANT way to determine if radishes, or almost any micro green, has enough water is to check the top of the soil. If the soil is dry then you need to water.

Micro greens are typically harvested around the time the second leaves, also known as the first “true” leaves appear (the first “false” leaves are called Cotyledons). For radish, this is usually about 2-3 inches tall. Harvesting radish micro greens is very easy and simple. Take your sharpest scissors and cut! Radish Micro greens are one of the most versatile greens. They can be used in a mix of other greens or as a base alone or with milder flavors to balance it out, as well as on a sandwich to add a little spice. These greens also works well topped on seafood and meat.
